About the Island
Beaver Island is the largest Island in the Beaver Island Archipelago and the largest island in Lake Michigan. The island is located 30 miles northwest of Charlevoix, Michigan. Beaver Island covers 55 square miles including roughly 12,000 acres of public lands and 36 miles of Lake Michigan shore line. The island has many hiking trails, beaches, inland lakes, and natural areas. The Island can be reached by either ferry or airplane. Vehicles may be brought over to the island on the ferry or rented on the island. The boat company begins taking car reservations in January. Book early as spaces fill up quickly. Passenger reservations are not required.
The Lodge is located 4 miles from the Beaver Island Ferry Boat Dock and Downtown St. James, 3.5 miles from Welke Private Airport, and 3 miles from the Beaver Island Municipal Airport.
The nearest mainland airport, served by major airline carriers, is in Traverse City, MI which is located about 45 miles south of Charlevoix. Car rental and carrier are available for transport from Traverse City to Charlevoix.
